Ministry of Defense: Russia-backed militants fire sixty 82-mm and 120-mm mortar rounds

Over the last day, Russia-backed militants made 27 attacks upon the Ukrainian troops’ positions, 24 of them were precision attacks. “Militants actively used mortars in both sectors having fired a total of sixty 82-mm and 120-mm rounds at Ukrainian positions. Ukrainian troops had to return fire using small arms in five cases”, reported Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman Colonel Dmytro Hutsulyak at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In Luhansk sector, Russian proxies delivered four precision attacks. In the evening militants fired over 30 rounds from 82-mm and 120-mm mortars outside Luhanske. The enemy used 82-mm mortars near Troitske as well. “Militants were actively shooting at Ukrainian troops stationed outside the above locations as well as near Novozvanivka from grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, and small arms,” Colonel Hutsulyak said.

In Donetsk sector, militants made 23 attacks. Russia-backed militants were using grenade launchers, heavy machine guns, and other infantry weapons. The most frequent hostile attacks were recorded in Vodiane, Avdiivka, and Lebedynske areas. Hostile attacks were also recorded near Berezove, Verkhniotoretske, Pavlopil, Kamianka, Nevelske, Novomykhailivka, Novotroitske, Talakivka, and Shakhta Butovka. A hostile sniper was active in Vodiane area.

“Starting at 18:00, during three hours Russia-backed militants fired about ten 120-mm mortar rounds at Ukrainian troops outside Lebedynske. Hostile attacks involving 82-mm mortars were also recorded near Vodiane in the evening,” the Ministry of Defense spokesperson elaborated.

Fortunately, Ukrainian troops incurred no casualties yesterday.
