Andrew Parubiy: our strategy is to avoid a full-scale conflict

Kyiv, March, 5th, 2014 – “The main task of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine is to prevent a large-scale conflict and military clashes in the Crimea”, said Andriy Parubiy, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine during a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

“Russia wants to provoke the first blood spill which will lead to a military conflict. The situation in Crimea is only the first step of such a scenario. The Southern and Eastern parts of Ukraine are under a real threat of occupation, potentially followed by the remaining territory of Ukraine ”, Mr. Parubiy said.

In Mr. Parubiy’s opinion, the Crimean situation remains tense but Ukrainian military forces remain faithful to their oath to Ukrainian people despite the immense pressure they face on a daily basis. They managed to localize two attacks on their military units last night. “The whole world supports us, not only European countries, but Kazakhstan, China and others as well. In the next few days, we hope to resolve the conflict at the negotiation table”, Mr. Parubiy said.

Andriy Parubiy is Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (from February 27, 2014). MP of Ukraine of the 6th and 7th convocation. Member of the All-Ukrainian Union ” Batkivshchyna”. Commandant of Maidan Self Defense.
