Kyiv, 13 January 2015 – The situation in the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) zone is further complicated. “Illegal armed groups are increasing the number and intensity of firing at our forces’ positions and at the Donbas localities. At night militants fired at the Ukrainian military positions 26 times. 11 localities and nearby positions of Ukrainian military came under terrorists’ fire,” informed Leonyd Matyukhin, ATO spokesman via Skype at a briefing at the Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

Same as before the illegal criminal groups open fire from heavy weapons. The Donetsk airport and adjacent localities remain the area of highest tension. Last night illegal armed groups fired at the Ukrainian positions 12 times using Grad multiple rocket launcher systems. “Militants shelled with Grad the air control tower of the Donetsk airport, localities Krasnohorivka, Nevelske, twice Opytne and Pisky, five times Tonenke,” added the ATO spokesman. Yesterday evening there was an engagement in the area of the Donetsk airport. Illegal armed groups fired at the positions of Ukrainian military a total of 84 times in the last day.

In the last day the ATO HQ observed 9 cases of aerial reconnaissance conducted with UAVs. “UAVs were spotted flying over localities Myzhne, Shchastia, Volnovakha, Novoselivka, Kalchyk, Mariupol and the Donetsk airport. Our servicemen firmly control the situation and where necessary counter fire neutralizing most active terrorists’ firing points,” explained Leonyd Matyukhin.
