ATO spokesman: Militants use small arms to fire at Ukrainian positions yet again

Kyiv, March 3, 2015. Ceasefire along the entire contact line in the Anti-Terrorist Operation zone has been generally adhered to. “Starting from 21:00, pro-Russian militants sporadically fired at our positions from small arms, trying to provoke an armed response,” said Anantoliy Stelmakh, ATO Staff spokesman, via Skype at a briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. Insurgents fired twice at the Ukrainian foothold near Dutovska mine near Donetsk. Myronivsk and Mayorsk in the Artemivsk sector were attacked as well.

Russia-backed militants shelled Avdiivka with mortars, using the tactics of “harassing fire”. Overall, they have violated ceasefire 6 times from 21:00, March 2, until 5:00 on March 3.

Pro-Russian militants intensified their activities in the evening of March 2. Thus militants fired at Pisky with mortars at around 7 pm. “They were firing at Avdiivka with an anti-aircraft system at 20:10 and from a tank at 20:30. Opytne came under fire at 20:20 too,” explained Anatoliy Stelmakh. At around 8pm outside of A military skirmish between the militants and the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Sokolnyky, Luhansk region. “According to the intelligence report, militants instigated the clash,” added the ATO Staff spokesman.
