Militants open fire from small arms and grenade launchers near Avdiivka and Pisky – Colonel Motuzyanyk

Kyiv, November 3, 2015. Russia-backed militants were not firing upon the positions of Ukrainian troops in the ATO zone yesterday. At the same time they opened fire from small arms and grenade launchers several times near Avdiivka and Pisky. Ukrainian troops did not incur casualties over the last day, no servicemen were wounded in action, said spokesman of Administration of the President of Ukraine on ATO-related issues Colonel Oleksandr Motuzyanyk at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

A civilian woman was killed near Berezove village in Donetsk region having hit a mine. “Together with her husband they were driving along the Donetsk – Mariupol highway towards Volnovakha. They stopped on the road and the woman went to the field on the road side despite the mine warning sign. An explosion occurred,” said the ATO spokesman. Twenty three civilians including four children have been killed on trip wires, mines and other explosive devices since the beginning of the year, 67 have been wounded.

Female leader of a subversive group within “Oplot” militant group was sentenced in Zaporizhia region. The female militant nicknamed Sakhara was conducting intelligence activities on bridges in Mariupol, Kurakhove and Kramatorsk last July as well as was collecting information on positions and blockposts of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. “In May this year she was checking on the technical equipment of Ukrainian units in Zaporizhia where she was detained,” added Colonel Motuzyanyk.

Ukrainian law enforcement staff seized weapons in the yard of a private house in Pshenychne village, Luhansk region. “Two grenade launchers, RGD-5 grenade with a fuse and two magazines to the Kalashnikov rifle were discovered. Owners of the weapons and ammunition in question are being looked for,” explained Colonel Motuzyanyk.

Consultation Center for ATO veterans has been set up at the Central Directorate of Ukraine’s Security Service. Servicemen who took part in combat actions in the eastern Ukraine as well as their families will be able to get the information on the social benefits to which they are entitled by law. Staff of Ukraine’s Security Service and of the Pension Fund as well as representatives of volunteer organizations are delegated to the Center to provide quick and quality services to the servicemen.
