ANNOUNCEMENT: A pre-Campaign Check-in on Ukraine’s Presidential Elections

On Wednesday, December 19th at 04:00 pm, the press center of the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center (Kyiv, 2, Khreshchatyk Street) will host an online round table focused on Ukraine’s presidential campaign scheduled to start on December 31st, 2018 from the perspective of Ukraine, Brussels, and Washington. The event will be held in the framework of the Transatlantic Task Force on Elections and Civil Society in Ukraine.

Speakers will examine and discuss the latest and relevant polling information, examine the key issues of importance to Ukrainians and make sense of a crowded presidential field. This meeting will also be an opportunity to touch on key pre-election assessments viewed by Ukrainian civil society and international partners.

The participants will attempt to tackle concerns about the conduct of the presidential campaign, as well as areas in which they think the international community should pay attention as the campaign season begins. What will be the role of the U.S., EU, and other international actors in supporting efforts by Ukrainians to ensure that their next president is elected in a free, fair, and open process. This includes internal challenges, such as corruption, polarization, populism, and limited martial law as well as external aggression from Russia.

 

The event will be held in English with a simultaneous translation into Ukrainian.
