The migrant crisis Lukashenko’s regime is orchestrating at the EU-Belarus borders has escalated rapidly over the past few days.
It is estimated that between 3,000 and 4,000 migrants are currently at the improvised camp near the Polish border, while Belarusian border guards forcibly transport people to the border with Lithuania threatening them with weapons.
Both Lithuania and Poland have declared a state of emergency, with Poland deploying 12,000 troops to the border. Belarus continues to deny it is causing the crisis and has mustered Russia’s support: Russian bombers will now regularly monitor Belarus’ borders.
