Russian occupiers shelled Marinka and the Marinka district with banned phosphorous munitions.

This was stated by the head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko.

According to him, as of 22:00 on May 4, two civilians were killed and 11 were injured in the Donetsk region.

“The shelling is all over the front line. It was also reported that the Russians are using phosphorous munitions on the Marinka direction, directly shelling the city of Marinka and the district,” Kyrylenko said.

The head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration noted that it was not the first time that the Russian occupiers used banned phosphate munitions against Ukrainians. According to him, each case has been duly recorded and will be attached as evidence to the materials of the criminal proceedings.

Pavlo Kyrylenko also noted that fierce fighting is taking place in the Lyman direction.

“Defenders are holding their ground. There is no retreat, even given that the enemy does not change its tactics – to destroy and wipe out residential neighborhoods, not giving opportunities to the Armed Forces of Ukraine to fortify, hold positions and continue to go on the offensive,” the head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration stated.

Earlier the Russian occupiers used banned phosphorous munitions in the Luhansk and Donetsk regions and on the outskirts of Kyiv.

Phosphorus munitions are flammable munitions that contain white phosphorus, which is very active and ignites from contact with oxygen.

According to the International Committee of the Red Cross, the ignited phosphorus burns at temperatures above 800 degrees Celsius, and fires can spread over large areas, up to several hundred square kilometers.

Phosphorus munitions cause severe and painful injuries or death to affected people.

The danger comes not only from fire but also from combustion products, the inhalation of which destroys the lungs.

The Additional Protocols of 1977 to the Geneva Convention prohibit the use of white phosphorus munitions if they endanger civilians.
