Donetsk and Luhansk regions: 8 civilians killed by Russian bombing and artillery shelling

As a result of Russian artillery shelling and airstrikes, 8 civilians were killed in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, and four were wounded. Among the injured is an 8-year-old child.

This was reported by the press service of the Joint Forces.

The Russian occupiers fired on 45 settlements in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, destroyed and damaged 36 houses, 6 industrial and farm enterprises, a supermarket, a sports school, a dormitory, and a pharmacy.

Donetsk region

According to Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration, on May 17 the Russians killed 7 civilians in the Donetsk region: 2 in Bakhmutske, 2 in Bakhmut, 1 in Avdiivka, 1 in Drobysheve, and 1 in Soledar. Another 6 people were injured.

In addition, in Bakhmut medical care was provided to 9 civilians wounded in Luhansk region.

It is currently impossible to ascertain the exact number of victims in Mariupol and Volnovakha.

According to Pavlo Kyrylenko, the Russians do not stop the mass shelling along the entire frontline from Vugledar to Bakhmut:

• Avdiivka was hit by a missile yesterday morning: three houses were damaged, no information about the victims.
• As a result of the shelling, Krasnohorivka in the Marinka community was cut off from electricity – restoration works are underway.
• The shelling continues in the Ocheretyne community, so it has not yet been possible to completely restore the previously damaged high-voltage line.
• In Bakhmut, the shelling damaged school №4 and several infrastructure facilities.
• Intense fire in the Toretsk direction does not stop, but the community is evacuating and repairing electricity and gas supplies.
• Vugledar was hit again yesterday – there is no information about the victims and injuries.
• In Mykolaivka, the Russian shells interrupted a power line – a part of Raihorodok remained without electricity.

A 9-year-old child was seriously injured and at least one person was killed by the State Emergency State rescuers from the rubble of a five-story building in Bakhmut.

A missile strike by the Russians destroyed the structure of the house from the fifth to the first floor.

The head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration once again addressed everyone who still ignores the danger:

“Evacuate! The Russians came to our land to destroy and kill. The main thing for civilians now is to save their lives. And the military will do their job – expel the racists out of our land.”

Luhansk region

According to Serhii Haidai, head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, a total of 15 artillery attacks withstood the regional center on May 17. Twelve high-rise buildings were destroyed, and apartments and a roof burned down in several of them. The city’s trade pavilions were also engulfed in flames.

Missile and bomb attacks from Su-35 airforces were carried out on the villages of the Popasna community yesterday. There is a lot of damage. Among the discovered ones are houses in Zolotarivka, Komyshuvakha, Vrubivka, as well as in the town of Hirske.

To support the offensive, the aggressor concentrated about fifteen helicopters in the Luhansk region, trying to launch an offensive in the direction of the settlements of Borovenky and Severodonetsk.

Yesterday morning, enemy fire again directed artillery at the Severodonetsk City Hospital, where two more buildings are now damaged.

A hit in the building of the Severodonetsk Research and Production Association “Impulse”, known for its developments around the world.

A building materials store and four high-rise buildings were also destroyed in Severodonetsk. Four more houses are in Rubizhne, two are in Lysychansk.
