Ever since the Russian large-scale invasion, Ireland has provided Ukraine with much needed support in its fight for freedom, including humanitarian, political, financial assistance. Ireland is part of a joint EU sanction effort and a strong supporter of Ukraine’s path to membership in the EU.
Besides using its voice on the international arena to call on the Russian Federation to end its bloody war, Ireland has joined with other countries to bring the aggressor to justice for its war crimes via investigation at the International Criminal Court. The Irish parliament has rightfullly recognized the Russian aggression as genocide against the Ukrainian people.
Providing refuge for 50,000 Ukrainians fleeing the war, medical assistance and treatment for the Ukrainian military and civilians, and the deeds of Ireland’s support for Ukraine go on and on. In the first part of Ukraine In Flames issue dedicated to Ireland, we focus on the government’s response to Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine.
Speakers:
- Larysa Gerasko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Ireland
- Charlie Flanagan, chair of All-Party Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence in Ireland.
- Garret Ahearn, Senator for the Administrative Panel in Ireland
