Do schools in Europe teach enough about Ukraine?

For the state, subjectivity in the international arena is primarily formed by its recognition among the population. The image of Ukraine and knowledge about it abroad is formed mainly from school textbooks.

At a time when Russia spends enormous funds on the functioning of Russian homes and the opening of Russian schools abroad, it is protecting its diaspora there from assimilation. As a colonized state, Ukraine often remained in the shadow of the Russian Empire, then the USSR, and finally the Russian Federation.

The lack of sufficient study of Ukrainian history within the school curriculum of European schools leads to misunderstanding in the further regional context of international interaction. That plays into the hands of Kremlin narratives in Europe.

UKRAINE IN FLAMES project is created by Ukraine Crisis Media Center and NGO “Euroatlantic Course”. We are aiming at searching a loud support for Ukraine in the war started by Russia on the 24th of February 2022.
