Russian war of annihilation also targets places where ideas are born – universities, museums, archives, and libraries. Trying to wipe out Ukrainian identity, the Russian army is aimed to destroy our historical and cultural heritage.
As of the end of August, 24 library buildings have been completely destroyed and 127 have been seriously damaged. Causing maximum economic losses to Ukraine is another part of Russian occupiers. The examples of Russian soldiers looting libraries and burning books on the occupied territories is another proof that the Russian-Ukrainian war is a cultural war as well.
These are losses not only for Ukraine but for the whole intellectual world, but the Ukrainian library community does not give up and also fights on the information front with the help of international partners and brings Ukrainian victory closer with all possible methods.
UKRAINE IN FLAMES project is created by Ukraine Crisis Media Center and NGO “Euroatlantic Course”. We are aiming at searching a loud support for Ukraine in the war started by Russia on the 24th of February 2022.
