When it comes to propaganda narratives demonizing Ukrainians, Russian propaganda always comes with the name of Stepan Bandera. After decades of myths and manipulations, he is now the symbol of fear for Russians.
In Russia, the word “Banderite” is used to promote the myth about “Ukrainian terrorists” or “Nazi collaborators”.
Why Bandera, one of the most prominent ideologists of the Ukrainian nationalist movement, became so controversial?
Working for the creation of the independent Ukrainian state, he was after all opposing both the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, looking for support for the idea of Ukrainian freedom. And sometimes, the price was rather high.
