Appropriating and erasing cultural heritage as part of russian colonial policy

Like every empire, Russia has long tried to appropriate Ukrainian culture and history. This is just an intermediate step towards complete colonial absorption.

During the large-scale invasion, cultural appropriation also remains an integral part of Russia’s war of annihilation. Looting Ukrainian museums and stealing our cultural heritage, Russia not only tries to appropriate our history but also to assert its cultural dominance.

Now, Russia still uses colonial optics while talking about Ukraine, trying to rewrite our history and justify today’s large-scale war.
However, everything Russia is now trying to still will soon be returned to Ukraine — and this will be a significant part of our victory over the evil empire.

UKRAINE IN FLAMES project is created by Ukraine Crisis Media Center and NGO “Euroatlantic Course”. We are aiming at searching a loud support for Ukraine in the war started by Russia on the 24th of February 2022.
