Today, Ukraine celebrates Velykden (Easter). Even in times of large-scale war, this bright holiday unites Ukrainians in joy for the resurrection of Christ.
Ukrainian Easter traditions are rich and authentic, combining pagan and Christian symbolism. The traditions of making and decorating paska (Easter bread) and pysanky (Easter eggs) pass from generation to generation.
Every Ukrainian region has its own customs of celebrating Easter but one thing remains unchanged: solidarity and mutual support. This is what helps Ukrainians bring holiday even to the frontline as well as to the internally displaced people.
UKRAINE IN FLAMES project is created by Ukraine Crisis Media Center and NGO “Euroatlantic Course”. We are aiming at searching a loud support for Ukraine in the war started by Russia on the 24th of February 2022.
