Deconstructing Dangerous Myths: Russia’s Manipulation of WWII History

Today, the world marks the Day of Remembrance and Reconciliation for Those Who Lost Their Lives during WWII. For Ukraine being torn by two totalitarian regimes, the WWII trauma is still n open wound.

While Russian propaganda has systematically tried to appropriate the victory over nazism to portray Russia as a victorious state, it also tries to discredit the Ukrainian contribution. The manipulations about Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars as „nazi collaborators” are still being used to justify military aggression and deportations.

Unlike Russia with its’ „pobedobesie” cult and glorification of militarism, Ukraine sees the experience of WWII as a great tragedy and a trauma that need reflection.

UKRAINE IN FLAMES project is created by Ukraine Crisis Media Center and NGO “Euroatlantic Course”. We are aiming at searching a loud support for Ukraine in the war started by Russia on the 24th of February 2022.
