Recent changes in German foreign policy and support for Ukraine

Since the start of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, the German position has changed. From being extra cautious and providing Kyiv with her humanitarian aid only, Berlin switched to a significant increase in military aid.

German relations with Russia have also changed from considering Moscow as a partner to regard it as a terrorist state. As the country has overcome its gas dependence on the aggressor state, now it is also moving into the leading countries’ vector — even in terms of military support.

How have things changed in the German political elite and the civic society? Can we talk about the change in German foreign policy tradition?
