Unraveling Ownership: The Challenge of Seizing Russian Assets in Ukraine

For over 30 years Ukrainian independence has been present in all spheres of the Ukrainian economy. After Russia’s large-scale invasion, Russian businesses and assets in Ukraine need to go through the process of “de-russification” of business.

However, even in the conditions of large-scale invasion, the process of nationalization of Russian property remains complicated at the legislative level.

While some of the businesses are formally registered on persons with non-Russian citizenship and try to mask the contacts with the aggressor state, the arrest of Russian businesses is one of the top Ukrainian priorities to limit financing Russia’s war against Ukraine. What are the legal measures to confiscate Russian assets and how long will it take?
