On May 14, 2022, the Russian occupiers once again attacked the defenders of the city of Mariupol, who hold positions on the territory of Azovstal steel combinate. The invaders used incendiary shells with thermite layers, which are prohibited by international humanitarian law.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

The combustion temperature of such shells is approximately 3,000 degrees Celsius, they are designed to destroy enemy manpower and equipment by creating mass fires.

Under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a pre-trial investigation is being conducted in criminal proceedings on violations of the laws and customs of war (Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
