Greenpeace International has intensified its radiation monitoring efforts in Ukraine due to the threat posed by Russia and the risk of nuclear terrorism. With the invasion of Ukraine by Russian army, there is an increased atomic threat to the country’s multiple nuclear power plants.
Greenpeace’s radiation monitoring aims to provide important information on the risks and vulnerabilities of specific nuclear power plants. Ukraine and the world need to have such independent observers of the situation related to radioactive substances because it significantly reduces Russia’s desire to carry out very dangerous provocations on its part.
Greenpeace’s monitoring efforts are crucial in understanding the potential impacts of a major incident caused by a direct military attack, plant damage, or off-site infrastructure. By intensifying radiation monitoring, Greenpeace is working towards ensuring the safety and well-being of the Ukrainian population and minimizing the risks associated with nuclear terrorism.
