What is behind Russian cultural diplomacy?

Culture is meant to be a way to exchange ideas and facilitate democratic relationships. However, in Russian hands, cultural events became tools for hybrid warfare.

Russian literature, sports, and movies are said to be the expression of the “great Russian world” and its “gorgeous culture”. In reality, Russia uses them as a means to hide its countless war crimes and to create a favorable image for itself, shifting the narratives in a way, that fits the Russian agenda.

Russian “cultural diplomacy” goes as far as rewriting historical events and distorting the truth to the extent, where the war and military aggression are being justified and glorified in various cultural and media outlets.
