Ministry of Defense: 51 hostile attacks recorded, militants keep using artillery and mortars

Over the past day, Russia-backed militants made 51 precision attacks on Ukrainian troops’ positions and used 122-mm artillery and mortars of various calibers. The enemy discharged about hundred 120-mm and eighty 82-mm mortar rounds. Ukrainian troops returned fire 44 times. Three Ukrainian servicemen were wounded in action, reported Ministry of Defense spokesman Colonel Dmytro Hutsulyak at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center.

In Luhansk sector, Russia-backed militants were extensively using 82-mm and 120-mm mortars, IFV mounted weapons, grenade launchers and small arms near Troitske and Svitlodarsk having fired a total of 120 mortar rounds in the area. Outside Zaitseve and Novhorodske militants used 82-mm mortars, grenade launchers, and small arms.

In Donetsk sector, Ukrainian troops recorded 37 hostile attacks. “Russia-backed militants were the most active in Avdiivka, Maryinka, Vodiane, and Shyrokyne areas,” the Ministry of Defense spokesperson said. Starting from around 16:00 during an hour Russian proxies made 39 shots from 122-mm artillery near Vodiane and Shyrokyne and fired about 30 rounds from 120-mm mortars in the same area. “Ukrainian strongholds near Avdiivka, Vodiane, Kamianka, Maryinka, Lebedynske, Novotroitske, Opytne, Pavlopil, Slavne, and Shyrokyne came under fire of hostile small arms, heavy machine guns, grenade launchers and IFV mounted weapons,” Colonel Hutsulyak added.

As of 09:00 of May 3, Russia-backed militants made seven precision attacks, all in Donetsk sector. Militants used grenade launchers and small arms outside Avdiivka, Lebedynske, Pavlopil, and Shyrokyne.
