Ministry of Defense: Militants use Grad MLRS in Mariupol sector

The situation in the ATO zone was extremely restless in the south near the Azov Sea. Russia-backed militant groups repeatedly used mortars, firing around 40 mortar shells at Ukrainian positions. “Some attacks were quite lengthy – one hour or more. The most intense attacks took place in Shyrokyne where the enemy also used Grad MLRS after 22:00 launching 18 missiles,” informed Ukrainian Ministry of Defense spokesman on ATO Colonel Andriy Lysenko at a press briefing at Ukraine Crisis Media Center. A 45-minutes hostile attack took place in Novotroitske.  Militants used sniper weapons and automatic grenade launchers. “In total, nine hostile attacks were recorded in Mariupol sector yesterday, six of them involved heavy weapons,” added Col. Lysenko.

In Luhansk sector, Russian proxies violated the ceasefire near the Bakhmut road and in Popasna district.  Hostilities took place only after 16:00. Militants used mortar in Krymske. “In Novotoshkivske and Novooleksandrivka Ukrainian troops had to return fire,” said the spokesman. In total, militants violated the ceasefire five times in Luhansk sector yesterday.

In Donetsk sector hostilities continued in Avdiivka and Pisky yesterday. “The situation was restless between midnight and 05:00. Occupants were using armor and light weapons. Ukrainian troops returned fire in two different frontline areas,” informed Col. Lysenko. In total, militants conducted four attacks in Donetsk sector yesterday.

No Ukrainian serviceman was killed in action yesterday, yet three troops were wounded.
