Kremlin Shady Horse Ilan Șor: The main voice of Russia in Moldovan politics

The project “Shady Horses” delves into investigating Russian propaganda dissemination within Western countries through prominent individuals, often referred to as “talking heads.”

By analyzing the influence and messaging of these figures, the project seeks to shed light on the tactics employed to spread Russian narratives, their impact on public opinion, and their potential connections to foreign organizations.

In Moldova’s political landscape, lan Șor has been accused of engaging in many suspicious activities that align with Russia’s interests in the country. He has been instrumental in funnelling substantial funds from Russia into Moldova through political parties affiliated with him to sway people’s votes. This has been seen as a move in line with the Kremlin’s attempts to subvert democracy in the region. This Moldovan oligarch has worked with Russian to create a political alliance aimed at controlling Moldova’s parliament and supporting legislation in favour of the Putin regime. Ilan Șor and other pro-Kremlin politicians aim to signal to the outside world that European integration is not in line with the Moldovan people’s wishes. This is a longstanding campaign to further the Kremlin’s hybrid warfare objectives in the region.

Șor’s politics reflect a close association with Russian interests, suggesting a concerted effort to further Russia’s influence in Moldova

Who is this Shady Horse?

Former member of parliament, fugitive oligarch and leader of the currently banned “Șor” party, head of the newly formed “Victory” bloc

Where is he from?

Moldova

Political affiliation?

He is adept in “russkiy mir” ideology, promotes solid ties with Russia, CIS, and Eurasian Economic Union

What has he been saying?

You will have to answer for slander in court. We are initiating a lawsuit for lies, slander and interference in justice matters, Grossu called Evgenia Hutsul a criminal.

Our future is not in the EU and NATO. Our future is productive interaction with Russia, the CIS, and the EAEU. Every reasonable person in our country understands and knows this.

Moldova will be pulled into Romania on the second day after the referendum. A loss of Moldovan identity and statehood. Yes, anything can happen, as they [the west] have shown the extent of their lawlessness. <…> We urge you to vote against it because we believe that the EU is a profanity

But the government doesn’t stop this chaos. They don’t care what the country is doing. Their only task is to exterminate the opposition

We are fighting today with a person [Maia Sandu -ed.] with absolutely no values and ideals that 98% of the population of the Republic of Moldova has. We are, after all, fighting a regime that is supported by Western countries, simply unquestioningly

We see that judges’ salaries are being raised. We see that officials’ salaries are being raised. We see that the government has reached the point of insanity, and for Moldova, I apologize. The micro-armies are spending money on the purchase of new weapons. Question: why?

We plan in the coming weeks to establish a shadow government, as we have called it, which will help several industries survive in today’s socio-economic situation.

For the EU, Moldova is a military training ground, and our citizens are potential participants in military adventures

We will not allow today’s puppets of the West to rewrite our history. Having sold her conscience to the European Union, Maia Sandu replaced Victory Day with some idiotic “Europe Day.”

The West has a goal: to destroy us as a country and as a nation. Europe is dragging us into war, pumping us up with weapons. Very soon, we will become a “purgatory” for migrants from the Middle East. There are plans to build a waste processing plant on our territory, fraught with an absolute environmental disaster.
