Russian media is praising China and specifically Cultural Revolution of Mao Zedong for… killing their citizens, which, as the speaker claims, allowed the country to have great economy.
He also laments that Soviet Union could not do the same, even though simple logic dictates that since Soviet Union was also extremely repressive against the same categories of people, who were targeted during Cultural Revolution (40-70 million victims), the answer to China’s boosting economy cannot lie in mass genocide.
Even more peculiar is that the speaker is a famous movie director in Russia – a profession that would most certainly be considered “bourgeois” in Maoist China and as such an enemy to the system to be destroyed.
