After a year and a half of Russia’s invasive war against Ukraine, the Chinese government demonstrates the attempts to look like a peacemaker. As such a position goes beyond the “neutral” politics of the state, such efforts are unlikely to help end the war.
The Chinese 12-point peacekeeping peace plan was more likely an opportunity for Russia to freeze its territorial gains in Ukraine and prolong the war than a peacekeeping mission.
As Chinese leader Xi Jinping has never openly supported Russian aggression, China’s recent rhetoric shows the country’s desire to create a positive image of China, which positions itself as a responsible state and global player.
UKRAINE IN FLAMES project is created by Ukraine Crisis Media Center and NGO “Euroatlantic Course”. We are aiming at searching a loud support for Ukraine in the war started by Russia on the 24th of February 2022.
