Polish businesses face losses amidst border blockade with Ukraine

Polish businesses are experiencing significant losses due to the ongoing border blockade with Ukraine, affecting both countries’ economies and defence capabilities against Russian aggression. The blockade has caused a detrimental effect on the Polish economy, with trade volume between Kyiv and Warsaw reaching 13 billion euros, exceeding the volume of Ukrainian exports to Poland by more than two times.

The border blockade has resulted in substantial economic losses for Ukrainian businesses, amounting to about $500 million, weakening the Ukrainian economy and impacting its defence against Russian aggression. Additionally, Polish companies are suffering due to the loss of one of the most important outlets of Polish goods, hindering trade between the two countries and causing a severe blow to Ukraine’s defence, consequently affecting Poland’s security.

Such border blockades play into the hands of Russia, benefitting the country by weakening the economies of both Ukraine and Poland and undermining Ukraine’s defence capabilities against Russian aggression. This allows Russia to profit from increased exports of agricultural and food products to the EU market, thus further destabilizing global and European markets and creating anti-Ukrainian sentiment to undermine European solidarity with Ukraine.
