Day 17 of war: Russia’s army hit hardest in decades, neutral status for Ukraine, web site to document Russia’s war crimes

Ukraine’s resistance hits Russia’s army hardest in decades – Zelenskyi. Russia’s losses in Ukraine mount, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi. In 16 days of war 31 battalion tactical groups of the Russian Armed Forces lost their combat effectiveness. The Ukrainian troops destroyed more than 360 tanks, 1,205 armored vehicles, nearly 60 aircraft and 80 helicopters.

Since Russia’s all-out invasion of Ukraine began, 1,300 Ukrainian troops were killed, President Zelenskyi said in an interview with foreign journalists. “We lost nearly 1,300 troops, Russia – more than 12,000. The ratio is one to ten. I am not happy that 12,000 of their troops were killed. That’s not my mindset,” the President said.

Operational report by Ukraine’s Defense Ministry. Pillagerobberyterror. Russia changes tactics as an offensivefailed. Logistical problems and long supply lines push the Russian troops to loot local stores and rob the residents. Grave crimes against civilians are common. The Russian troops fired toward a column of women and children as they moved through an agreed evacuation corridor from Peremoha in Kyiv region. Seven people were killed including a child. There is no estimate for the number of wounded.

Demoralized troops desert. The Russian troops in abandoned units are demoralized. There’s an uptick in cases when they try to return to Russia without an order.

Air strikes continue. Russia continues to conduct air raids on the critical infrastructure, residential areas and airports in violation of the international humanitarian law.

Web site to document Russia’s war crimes. The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine and the public initiative IT Defends launched the web site WarCrimes.gov.ua to document Russia’s war crimes and crimes against humanity in Ukraine.

“The web site is structured in line with requirements of the International Criminal Court. It will become target of cyber attacks by Russia as it collects personal data of witnesses and victims, photo and video evidence and as the scale of aggression and damage is impressive. The web site’s security is a priority,” the Office of the Prosecutor General said in a statement.
