Centre for Countering Disinformation collected fakes, manipulation, and disinformation that the enemy spread on May 5, 2022:

  • Fake: In an interview with the Associated Press, Lukashenko said that “what happened in Bucha is a show. There were Englishmen who came from Lviv in cars, took pictures in Bucha, and then uploaded them into the information space”;
  • Disinformation: The Russian Defense Ministry said that “Kyiv uses the civilian infrastructure for military purposes.” These are medical institutions in Kharkiv, Sloviansk, Lysychansk, and Odesa, where “nationalists have installed heavy military equipment”;
  • Manipulation: Russian propagandists continue to demonise the Ukrainian military. In particular, the Russian media claim a violation of the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War, citing as evidence a video in which “a Georgian mercenary forces a prisoner to repeat offensive phrases.”

22:02 Ukrinform

Russia’s war against Ukraine could significantly increase the risk of food insecurity for many countries around the world.

According to Ukrinform, this is stated in the report of the Global Network Against the Food Crisis, which is published on the website of the European Commission.

According to the 2022 Global Report, in 2021, some 193 million people in 53 countries or territories experienced acute food insecurity and needed urgent food assistance. Last year, that number was 40 million higher than in 2020, which showed a record number of people who were already at risk of starvation at the time.

21:33 Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko

On May 5, 25 citizens were injured in a Russian missile strike on Kramatorsk. It was also possible to clarify information about one wounded man in Lyman and two people who died earlier in Chasovyi Yar and Novomykhailivka.

In addition, one person died in Bakhmut, the Donetsk region, and was injured in the Luhansk region. Another 5 wounded from the Luhansk region received medical treatment in Bakhmut.

21:27 Ministry of Interior

The Interior Ministry has begun working with Amnesty International to record and investigate war crimes.

Today, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, headed by Deputy Minister Kateryna Pavlichenko, met with the team of the international human rights organization.

Amnesty International experts work with local authorities and the Government of Ukraine to investigate war crimes committed by Russia so that the world can know about them. They also have a tough stance on countries that are not ready to express strong protest to Russia and believe that neutrality in the war against Ukraine is appropriate.

20:48 Ukrainska Pravda referring to Bloomberg

15:22 Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration

According to the official city authorities of the resort city, in Berdiansk the occupiers are threatening to prevent the receipt of humanitarian aid by the population.

Armed occupiers visited the offices and homes of some Berdiansk volunteers demanding to stop the distribution of medicines and food among the local population. And also to provide contacts of all volunteers and carriers who work to support the population and remain on the side of Ukraine.

15:15 Ukrzaliznytsia

During the great war, Ukrzaliznytsia’s passenger trains evacuated 102,500 pets. Dogs and cats continue to be the most frequent passengers on evacuation rides, in particular the well-known case of evacuation of a Mariupol family with 5 children and 9 dogs in early March.

Among the animals transported in the cars are domestic foxes and pigs, iguanas, boas, raccoons, weasels, ferrets and minks, ducklings, snails, turtles and aquarium fish for all tastes.

Ukrainians do not leave those they love.

15:08 Evropeiska Pravda

European Union is ready to allocate 200 million euros to support Ukrainians who have moved to other cities and regions due to the war.

This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at the international donors’ conference for Ukraine.

14:13 Suspilne

The Russian occupiers once again fired on an eco-park in the Kharkiv region. A 15-year-old volunteer was killed and two workers were injured.

13:53 Ukrinform A torture chamber with blood on the walls was found at a former Russian headquarters at a railway station in Trostianets, Sumy region. This was reported by a member of the Supervisory Board of Ukrzaliznytsia Serhii Leshchenko.

13:27 Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal

The Prime Minister is on a working visit to Warsaw, where an international donors’ conference in support of Ukraine is being held.

13:14 Ukrainian Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova

For propaganda purposes, Russians endanger the lives of young children.

Yesterday in the Donetsk region in the temporarily occupied city of Volnovakha, the occupiers opened a kindergarten № 8 “Teremok”. A “holiday” program was held for children.

Such “demonstrations” are aimed at creating an image of a peaceful life, while the city of Volnovakha remains in a dangerous zone, near the line of hostilities. The city is constantly under fire.

However, the interim occupation authorities are deliberately endangering the lives of civilians, including preschool children.

Such actions of the occupiers are a violation of the provisions of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Article 6 of the Convention stipulates that state parties recognize that every child has the right to life. Article 38 of the Convention stipulates that in armed conflicts, state parties are obliged to take all possible measures to ensure the protection and care of children affected by armed conflict.

12:55 Prosecutor General of Ukraine Iryna Venedictova

The Helsinki Commission of the US Congress held a hearing on Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine. Venediktova testified at the hearings about the horrific atrocities committed by the Russian army.

12:53 Ukrainian Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights Liudmyla Denisova

The troops of the aggressor country are destroying and stealing the cultural heritage of the Ukrainian people. 242 cases of Russian aggressors’ war crimes against such objects have already been documented.

12:30 Ukrainska Pravda

For several days now, the Russian military has been blocking the Kherson region from entering and leaving to Mykolaiv and other cities controlled by the Ukrainian authorities.

12:21 CinC AF of Ukraine

Regular communication is maintained with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark A. MILLEY. Trust, professionality and shared values are the basis of our close ties, which only became stronger throughout large-scale Russian aggression against our nation.

Traditionally I have briefed my American counterpart on the operational situation. In particular, the enemy’s main effort shifts towards Luhansk direction, where in the vicinities of Popasna, Kreminna, and Torske the heavy fighting is going on as well as about the shift to counter attacks on Kharkiv and Izium directions.

Emphasised the resumption of the cruise missiles used by the Russian aggressor. The main elements of these actions are the destruction of logistical routes to provide military and technical assistance to Ukraine. So, throughout May 3, 14 cruise missiles were used, which were fired from TU-160 strategic bombers from the Caspian Sea. As of last night, 8 cruise missile launches have been recorded in our territory. Therefore, the issue of providing Ukraine with multiple launch missile systems such as M142 HIMARS and M270 MLRS is crucial.

I am deeply grateful to our partners for their assistance to Ukraine. We are successfully addressing all the challenges of acquiring new weapons and equipment through cooperation and support at all levels. Today, our military not only intensively learns to use and maintain NATO weapons but also shares their combat experience with partners.

12:01 President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi

We are launching a United24 global initiative.

Its first component is an online platform to raise funds in support of Ukraine. Other projects and programs will be added soon.

You can make a donation in one click from any country in the world. Join United24! Tell your friends about the initiative.

11:52 Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleh Syniehubov

Even though the Armed Forces pushed the enemy away from the city in the northern direction, the Russians continue to terrorize the civilian population.

These strikes are not aimed – the occupier strikes residential areas, thereby harming civilians.

The enemy continues to fire from MLRS and artillery. During the day, Piatyhatky, the town of Zhukovskyi, Saltivka, and Pivnichna Saltivka were affected.

Already in the morning, there were shellings of the Pivnichna Saltivka. No one was injured.

The hottest spot of the Kharkiv region remains in the Izium direction. There, the enemy is constantly trying to attack the positions of the Armed Forces, in particular, near Barvinkove, but suffers significant losses.

In addition, yesterday the enemy tried to attack the positions of the Armed Forces in the Vovchansky direction. The enemy was also defeated.

We clearly understand what forces the enemy has and how he moves. Currently, the entire array of enemy equipment goes through the Vovchansk and Kupyansk directions to Izium to increase its presence in the Luhansk and Donetsk territories.

11:49 Ukrinform

In the temporarily occupied Crimea, from March 4 to April 12, 36 administrative materials were sent to the so-called “courts” on “discrediting the use of the Russian armed forces to protect the interests of the Russian Federation and its citizens, support international peace and security.”

This was reported in the Ombudsman’s Office in response to a request from Ukrinform.

As an example, the Ombudsman’s Office cited a situation when a ruling by one of these “courts” on an administrative offence against citizen Valentyna Schuman stated that she had publicly displayed a homemade 30-by-20-centimetre cardboard poster with Ukrainian flag colours and a “No to War” inscription. However, the interrogation of the witness, who allegedly saw the poster, was not conducted in the “court”, which indicates the bias of the trial.

11:05 Ukrainska Pravda citing the Head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration Vitalii Kim and the Mayor of Mykolaiv Oleksandr Sienkevich

The Mykolaiv region was intensively fired on the night of May 5. There are several wounded civilians. In Mykolaiv gas pipelines and a contact network are damaged.

11:03 State Emergency Service of Ukraine

The enemy continues to destroy the housing stock of the Luhansk region. The number of destroyed houses, hospitals, and educational institutions is growing every hour. The extent of the destruction is catastrophic.

10:35 Security Service of Ukraine

Pro-Russian blogger Anatolii Sharii, whom the SBU suspects of treason, has been detained in Spain on May 4, 2022. This became possible due to the close cooperation of the Security Service of Ukraine with the Office of the Prosecutor General, international partners, and as a result of a multi-level special operation of Ukrainian law enforcement officers.

The Ukrainian special services suspect Sharii of committing crimes under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

▪️ Art. 111 (Treason)

▪️ Art. 161 (Violation of equality of citizens depending on their race, nationality, religious beliefs, disability, and other grounds).

According to SSU investigators, he carried out illegal activities to the detriment of Ukraine’s national security in the information sphere. There is reason to believe that Anatolii Sharii acted on behalf of foreign structures.

The evidence of the investigation is confirmed by several expert studies, which established that in Sharii’s interviews and speeches there are facts of his subversive activities against Ukraine. He was declared a suspect last year.

All necessary investigative and operational measures are underway to make this person accountable for his actions before the law.

10:34 General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The total combat losses of the enemy from 24.02 to 05.05 were approximately:

  • UAV operational-tactical level – 312 (+9),
  • special equipment – 38,
  • cruise missiles – 89 (+2).

The Russian enemy suffered the greatest losses in the Popasna direction.

Data is being updated.

10:17 Office of the Prosecutor General

As a result of the shelling of the territory of the monastery, the dormitory building was damaged. According to preliminary data, 7 civilians were injured.

Police investigators and members of the State Emergency Service are currently working at the scene.

9:13 Head of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration Pavlo Kyrylenko

At least one civilian was killed and 17 houses were damaged in the nighttime shelling of Chasiv Yar.

After the missile attack on Kramatorsk, 25 people were injured, and 9 houses, a school, and civilian infrastructure were damaged.

The Russians are still trying to sow panic in the Donetsk region, but they have no chance.

Filtration camps in the village of Bezimiane turned into a real ghetto for Mariupol residents – Video

Almost four weeks ago, the occupiers forcibly removed all men from the Huhlino, Myrnyi, and Volonterivka districts. About two thousand people were placed in the villages of Bezimiane and Kozatske in the Novoazovsk district. No personal belongings were allowed to be taken, and passports and other documents were confiscated for identification.

The men were placed in the school and club. The men have been forcibly detained without being allowed to leave the school without a convoy of Russian troops for four weeks now. Conditions of detention are terrible – people are forced to sleep on the floor in the corridors. Medical assistance is not provided. The first case of tuberculosis was recorded among people at the Bezimiane school, as a result of which the school gym was turned into an isolation ward where a large number of people were locked up without medical care. The first case of a man’s death due to the occupiers’ refusal to call an ambulance was recorded in Kozatske.

In the absence of any of the detainees, the occupiers promise to intensify torture and execute other detainees. People are fed three times a day with tasteless soup. In the place of detention as a point of hygiene – only one sink with cold water for thousands of people. Hygiene as such is lacking, which exacerbates the incidence among detainees.

The Russians do not return the documents to the people, instead, everyone receives a filtering paper, but it does not give them the right to leave the camp. There were some attempts, but the men were detained and beaten. The last unsuccessful attempt was to break into the UN and Red Cross evacuation buses, which the detainees saw from the windows.

All detainees, including the sick and people with disabilities, are being recruited to work in Bezimiane and Novoazovsk under the escort of the Russian military. As for the future, the occupiers emphasise that they have not yet decided whether to use people as labour to dismantle the debris of Mariupol or to mobilise the occupiers into the army. At the same time, on Monday, May 2, it was announced that the men would take part in the parade on May 9 in Mariupol as “prisoners”. Why they will be dressed in the uniform of Ukrainian soldiers.

The other side of this horror is the lives of women who remained in the Huhlino, Myrnyi, and Volonterivka districts. Due to the lack of men and the large number of occupiers who settled in the area, the homes are being looted by Russian, even if there are people in the building. Women do not go outside for fear of rape.

8:27 Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration

In Polohy, as a result of enemy shelling, a one-story apartment building caught fire. Firefighters extinguished the conflagration on an area of 70 square metres. During the shelling, a 50-year-old woman received shrapnel wounds incompatible with life.

8:26 Operational Command South

The city of Mykolaiv is fired at by MRLs using the forbidden cluster munitions. In an attempt to inflict maximum damage, the enemy strikes residential and industrial neighbourhoods. As a result, gas utilities, power substations, industrial facilities, and private houses are affected. Late in the evening, the Russians also hit the area of the zoo, causing significant damage to one of the schools. Information about the victims is being clarified.

There were no active offensive actions toward Mykolaiv, but during the past day, the Russians conducted several attacks from BM-30 Smerch.

In the north of the Kherson and Mykolaiv region, the enemy troops fire on the villages which have left at the retreat. Without sparing the locals, they are destroying private households. One woman was killed, and at least six civilians were injured. Losses are being clarified.

During the next attempt of the Orlan-10 UAV to reconnoitre the Ukrainian positions in the Mykolaiv area, the enemy spy was shot down by anti-aircraft missile units.

During the past 24hrs, missile and artillery and aviation units of the southern Ukrainian defence forces have defeated about 130 enemy targets. That ensured the loss of the enemy in the amount of 50 Russians and 11 units of equipment, including 2 self-propelled howitzers “Msta-S”, 5 units of armoured vehicles, 3 automobiles, and 1 UAV.

The composition of the Russian ship group in the Black Sea does not change significantly. Three missile ships and one submarine are ready to launch a missile strike, but our defense forces and air defences are monitoring the situation around the clock in the Black Sea, in the air, and all strategic areas.

8:23 Office of the Prosecutor General

More than 629 children suffered in Ukraine as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation – 221 children were killed, and 408 received injuries of varying severity

Children suffered the most in regions such as Donetsk – 139, Kyiv – 116, Kharkiv – 95, Chernihiv – 68, Kherson – 46, Mykolaiv – 44, Luhansk – 37, Zaporizhzhia – 27, Sumy – 17, the capital – 16, and Zhytomyr – 15.

These data are not conclusive, as inspection of sites of active hostilities and liberated settlements and receiving information on the temporarily occupied territories are underway.

On May 3 as a result of the attack by the Russian occupiers of the village of Velykyi Kut in the Mykolaiv region a 9-year-old girl was wounded.

During the recording of criminal offences committed by the Russian army in the Kyiv region, the body of a 10-year-old girl was found in the village of Shybyne, who died from shrapnel wounds due to an enemy projectile entering the house.

As a result of daily bombings and shelling by the Russian armed forces, 1,584 educational institutions were damaged, 118 of which were destroyed.

8:10 Centre for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine

Centre for Countering Disinformation collected fakes, manipulation, and disinformation that the enemy spread on the morning of May 5, 2022:

  • Fake: Russian media reported that “combat psychotropic drugs that make “universal soldiers” out of Ukrainian fighters were found in the trenches in Rubizhne”;
  • Disinformation: Propagandists of the Russian Federation reported that “Ukrainian intelligence for the last 10 years used the agency of influence to form a neutral attitude of Polish society to the “Volyn slaughter” – the mass murder of Poles by Ukrainian nationalists in Volyn in 1943″;
  • Manipulation: Russian media continue to demonise the Ukrainian military. In particular, the propagandists stated that “Ukrainian militants shot a column of refugees heading from Vovchansk to Kharkiv.”

8:05 Adviser to the Mayor of Mariupol Petro Andriushchenko

Constant shelling and assault on Azovstal continue, even at night with the help of fire-correcting drones. In some places, hostilities are already behind the fence of the plant. The part of the Livoberezhnyi district from Veselka Park is again closed to residents, but this time they had to evacuate urgently on their own without warning.

“The last 11 square kilometres of freedom in Mariupol have been turned into hell,” said Andriushchenko.

7:54 Head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration Serhii Haidai

On May 4, the Russians carried out seven heavy artillery shellings on Sievierodonetsk, seven more on the Popasna and Hirske communities, and four on Lysychansk.

The bodies of the five victims have been found and identified so far. Two of them are men from Novoivanivka who were hit by Russian shelling on the evening of May 3. A man from Toshkivka and a woman from Voievodivka died in the morning and a man from Popasna in the afternoon. This is not the final data, because, in the Popasna and Hirske communities, houses are burning one after another. Thus, at least eight houses were destroyed or damaged in Hirske alone, three in Komyshuvaha, four in Sievierodonetsk, four in Lysychansk, and at least four in Novodruzhesk.

Russia’s missile strikes on western Ukraine have targeted primarily key supply lines delivering billions of pounds worth of western arms to the country, including railway lines and warehousing, to undermine opportunities to provide support to Ukraine. The Pentagon insisted the flow of arms had not been significantly impeded.
