19:10 Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Chief Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine

According to Ukrainian intelligence, Russia is preparing to announce an open mobilization on May 9.

“Now Rosreserv has started to check what they actually have in stock and calculate that they can give out on mobilization orders. This is an absolutely necessary step before the start of real mobilization,” Budanov explained.

Asked whether the Kremlin’s plan is to win in Donbass by May 9, the head of the Chief Directorate of Intelligence said: “This is their goal, but it will not happen, they do not have time. In no way do they have time.”

18:10 Josep Borrell, EU High Representative

According to the Council of Europe, at least 10 Ukrainian and international journalists have been killed since the beginning of the war, and even more have been injured. The safety of media workers remains a priority for the EU.

17:15 Chief Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine

The Russian Federation is preparing for the cholera epidemic in the regions bordering Ukraine.

According to intelligence, Russia’s chief state sanitary doctor Anna Popova signed a resolution “On additional measures to prevent cholera.” It pays special attention to additional prevention measures in the regions bordering Ukraine: Bryansk, Kursk, Belgorod, Voronezh, Rostov regions, Krasnodar Krai, as well as the occupied Crimea.

The Chief Directorate of Intelligence suggests that probably in late May-early June, the Russian leadership may resort to provocations in areas bordering Ukraine, and will traditionally try to shift responsibility for this to Kyiv, accusing it of “using biological weapons.”

17:14 Maksym Ocheretianyi, deputy head of the Kyin regional police

In the Kyiv region, after liberation from the enemy, law enforcement officers found eight mass graves of civilians killed by Russian invaders.

“We have eight of them. And in fact, we found 148 people in these eight burials,” Maksym Ocheretyany said.

According to Ocheretyany, all the victims have injuries, a forensic examination is currently underway,” and it will provide us with more specific information.”

15:23 Iryna Venediktova, Prosecutor General of Ukraine

The French are helping the Ukrainian side with their experts, and from Tuesday they are to begin DNA testing of bodies in Bucha.

“The French, they are not in the joint investigation team, but they are helping experts here, the Ukrainian side. They arrived a long time ago and had to leave a long time ago, but stayed. And starting tomorrow, they will start DNA tests in Bucha. That is, the French group will stay with us for another 10 days, then there will be a rotation, and again the French will be,” Venediktova said.

14:32 Ruslan Stefanchuk, head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine

The People’s Deputies registered in the Verkhovna Rada a draft resolution №7341 on the appeal of the Ukrainian Parliament to the House of Representatives and the Senate of the US Congress to recognize Russia as a sponsor of terrorism.

14:22 Chief Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine

200 volunteers a week from each federal district, except Moscow – the Kremlin conducts a campaign to recruit “volunteers”.

  • The Russian Federation is stepping up a campaign to recruit “volunteers” for contract military service. It is assumed that they should restore the losses of personnel of units that took part in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine. It is also planned to form several new units. When signing contracts, preference is given to those who have previously served in the military. The military leadership of the Russian Federation has established clear “recruitment norms”: for the Far Eastern and Siberian federal districts, it is 200 “volunteers” every week. At the same time, recruitment is not carried out in Moscow at all.
  • Campaigning events are held to motivate “volunteers” to serve. In particular, traditional Russian narratives about the “collective West” and “non-existent Ukraine” are repeated. Increased material support and benefits are also promised.
  • It will be recalled that the Russian occupation command has already used at least 95% of the trained battalion tactical groups, and this was still insufficient to achieve “success” in the war with Ukraine.

13:00 Ukrinform

In the Kyiv region, law enforcement officers have already found, examined and handed over 1,202 bodies of Ukrainian citizens to forensic medical institutions since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion to determine the cause of death. This was announced by Ukrainian Police Chief Andrii Nebytov on Ukrainian TV channels.

12:35 Spokesman for the Odesa Military Administration Serhii Bratchuk

The enemy fired missiles at the bridge across the Dniester estuary in the Odesa region. The information is being clarified.

12:17 Head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration Serhii Haidai

The Russians are continuously shelling Rubizhne: the evacuation has been thwarted again. It is dangerous to be in the building of the humanitarian headquarters.

12:14 Adviser to the Mayor of Mariupol Petro Andriushchenko

The occupiers shut down all information flows to and from the city.

“One may be surprised, but Mariupol residents in the city are now convinced that Russian soldiers are marching along Khreshchatyk, Kharkiv is under Russian control, and every man from Mariupol is sent to the front when he leaves,” said Andriushchenko.

To maintain this blockade, the occupiers tightly control photos and videos. You can’t even start taking selfies without the separate permission of the soldiers, and even when you do it, the Russian soldier is always there and controls what you take. Only propagandists and “volunteers” from the FSB can shoot in the city. That is why you can see either exactly turned out shots of “grateful Mariupol citizens”, or something was quickly shot from the car. When filtering on the way out of the city, Russians remove all content that can show the truth of life. The occupiers spread disinformation such as “Zelenskyy called all Mariupol traitors and promised prison to everyone.”

11:45 Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration Valentyn Reznichenko

Two more attacks on the Synelnykove district, Dnipropetrovsk region.

One missile hit a pig farm. Pigs are alive. It affected the warehouses. Between them is a funnel 15 metres wide and 10 metres deep. Another missile hit a road verge with trees.

11:31 Security Service of Ukraine

To mask the frantic losses in the war in Ukraine, Russian corpses are transported in small batches and only at night.

11:23 Minister for Foreign Affairs of Denmark Jeppe Kofod

Denmark has resumed its embassy in Kyiv.

“I just raised the flag at the Danish Embassy in Kyiv. An important step is that today we are reopening the embassy after the Russian attack. It is touching to meet both local workers and Danes who have survived here in the capital for the last two months.”

11:17 Ukrinform

The New Zealand government has announced that it is imposing additional sanctions on Russian politicians and defence agencies that support Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions in Ukraine as part of the government’s ongoing response to the war.

11:04 Head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration Serhii Haidai

Emergency crews are daily counteracting the humanitarian catastrophe caused by the Russians in the Luhansk region. But the opportunities for repairmen are limited.

Two cities are supplied with electricity in some neighbourhoods. One is provided with water, but partially. A centralised water supply is absent almost throughout the region. The Russians de-energized the pumping stations and destroyed some altogether. High-voltage power lines in the area of active hostilities are interrupted. Rescuers deliver dozens of tons of technical water to the region’s residents every day, and drinking water is delivered by humanitarian aid.

In total, 42 settlements were cut off from electricity – 29 completely and 13 partially. 99,295 households are without electricity.

A slightly better situation with gas supply. Gas is available in the homes of 45,315 households from six settlements, three – throughout the territory, in three – partly.

10:37 General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The Russian enemy suffered the greatest losses (of the past day) in the Izium direction.

Data is being updated.

10:30 Centre for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine

Former New Zealand Foreign Minister Matt Robson thanked Russia for its opposition to NATO.

Centre for Countering Disinformation reports: “An expert from New Zealand in the English-language news segment spreads Russia’s propaganda thesis that” NATO has always wanted to surround Russia and China.”

On April 29, several New Zealand media outlets published a commentary by Robson in which he manipulatively expressed Russia’s gratitude for the war with NATO in Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Robson has regularly made such statements, completely repeating the disinformation narratives of Russian leaders.

In February and March, the former New Zealand Foreign Minister said that “NATO provoked Putin.” In April, Robson repeatedly stated that “NATO has promised not to expand the geography of its presence.”

10:11 State Bureau of Investigation

Russia’s plans to destabilise the situation in Odesa on the anniversary of the May 2 tragedy have been thwarted. The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) detained 12 saboteurs.

  • Currently, special attention is paid to Odesa, as the enemy does not abandon plans to capture the region. On the eve of May 2, SBI officers together with the National Police conducted a large-scale special operation to identify the organisers and perpetrators of possible sabotage and provocations on the anniversary of the tragedy.
  • Dozens of criminals and possible collaborators who could destabilise the situation in the region under the leadership of the Russian special services were checked.
  • As a result, SBI officers identified and detained 12 people who are reasonably suspected of plotting sabotage, protests, and riots in the Odesa region. Also, according to operative information, detainees worked on incitement of inhabitants of Odesa to mass riots.
  • The Bureau officers found an arsenal of weapons and explosives in the saboteurs. A large number of submachine guns, machine guns, grenades, pistols, and ammunition were kept in the private house of one of the detainees. In addition, the rebels were found with flags with communist symbols, medals, anti-Ukrainian books, and propaganda brochures.
  • According to the enemy’s plans, they were to implement their criminal plan for the anniversary of the tragic events – May 2.

10:09 Chief Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine

To hide information about the movement of Russian occupation troops through the territory of Belarus, the Belarusian authorities turn off the Internet.

For the first time, the full and partial restriction of access of mobile subscribers of the Republic of Belarus to the Internet was recorded on April 1. During the month, entire regions of Belarus were restricted from accessing the Internet.

According to the estimates of the military intelligence of Ukraine, the disconnection of users from the Internet is coordinated by special services. Thus, the KGB of Belarus and the FSB of Russia are trying to limit the communication of patriotic citizens and prevent the spread of information on social networks about the movement of Russian military equipment through the territory of the republic.

Anomalies in access to the network in some areas south and southeast of Minsk indicate a corridor of military equipment, which is confirmed by information from other sources.

9:46 Suspilne citing the head of the Izium City Council department Maksym Strelnyk

The Russian occupiers increased the means of electronic warfare in Izium, Kharkiv region. There is no connection with the city for about a week. In a comment to the Suspilne, Strelnyk said that there are about 10-15,000 civilians left in the city.

“Now they have stopped conducting organised deportations. Humanitarian corridors are not working. There is no food delivery and evacuation,” Strelnyk said.

8:47 Suspilne citing the UK Ministry of Defence

At the start of the conflict, Russia committed over 120 battalion tactical groups, approximately 65 percent of its entire ground combat strength.

It is likely that more than a quarter of these units have now been rendered combat ineffective.

Some of Russia’s most elite units, including the VDV Airborne Forces, have suffered the highest levels of attrition. It will probably take years for Russia to reconstitute these forces.

8:14 Head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration Serhii Haidai

Three people were killed and three wounded by the Russian army in the Luhansk region, among the victims – a minor, in Lysychansk burned down a gymnasium – Belgian Heritage.

A 12-year-old boy was injured during heavy Russian shelling of the city of Zolotye at approximately 20:00 on May 1. One woman died in Zolote.

Two more died during the past day in Lysychansk and Popasna. A resident of Lysychansk was wounded by shrapnel.

Heavy prolonged shelling prevented a full-fledged evacuation. Three were killed. At least 12 houses were destroyed in Horikhove and four in Hirske. In Lysychansk, an old building of a multidisciplinary gymnasium, which is part of the Belgian heritage of the city, burned down, and several houses were damaged. There are six high-rise buildings in Sievierodonetsk, five of which are located next to each other.

In total, on May 1, the towns and villages of the Luhansk region suffered 18 times from enemy shelling. Only the destruction of 28 houses has been officially recorded.

8:09 Office of the Prosecutor General

more than 624 children suffered in Ukraine as a result of the armed aggression of the Russian Federation – 219 children were killed, and 405 received injuries of varying severity

Children suffered the most in regions such as Donetsk – 139, Kyiv – 115, Kharkiv – 95, Chernihiv – 68, Kherson – 45, Mykolaiv – 43, Luhansk – 37, Zaporizhzhia – 27, Sumy – 17, the capital – 16, and Zhytomyr – 15.

These data are not conclusive, as inspection of sites of active hostilities and liberated settlements and receiving information on the temporarily occupied territories are underway.

8:03 Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration Valentyn Reznichenko

In the Synelnykove district, a missile hit an elevator. The warehouse with grain was destroyed. According to previous information, no one was injured.

8:02 Centre for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine

Centre for Countering Disinformation collected fakes, manipulation, and disinformation that the enemy spread on the morning of May 2, 2022:

  • Disinformation: the Russian Defence Ministry said that “80 civilians detained by Ukrainian nationalists had been released from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol. Among the evacuees are women and children”;
  • Manipulation: Russia’s propaganda continues to spread the thesis of the return of peaceful life in the territories temporarily occupied by the Russian army. Thus, the propagandists reported that “there is a market in Volnovakha, trade is conducted in hryvnias and rubles, but locals are already forgetting what the hryvnia is”;
  • Fake: the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation declared that fighters of territorial defense detain inhabitants of Mykolaiv because of pro-Russian views, torture them, and threaten physical violence against relatives. During raids, nationalists confiscate property and products for the needs of territorial defence.”

6:51 Adviser to the Mayor of Mariupol Petro Andriushchenko

With the support of the United Nations and the Red Cross, two additional locations have been agreed on today to put people in an evacuation convoy leaving Mariupol. These are the village of Manhush and the Lunacharske ring near Berdiansk.

6:50 General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

The operational update regarding the Russian invasion on 06.00 on May 2, 2022.

Video (Spokesman for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Shtupun).

The sixty-eight day of the heroic resistance of the Ukrainian people to a Russian military invasion continues.

  • The Russian enemy continues to conduct full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine and offensive operations in the Eastern Operational Zone.
  • Units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus have been identified in the Volyn and Polissya areas and continue to carry out tasks to cover the Ukrainian-Belarusian border in the Brest and Gomel regions.
  • The threat of missile strikes on military and civilian infrastructure from the territory of the Republic of Belarus by the Russian enemy remains.
  • In the Siversky direction, the Russian enemy fired mortars at the positions of Ukrainian troops in the Senkivka area of the Chernihiv region.
  • Intensified administrative-police and counter-intelligence regimes have been established in the Russian Bryansk region bordering Ukraine. Checkpoints are located on the main roads and near the settlements.
  • In the Slobozhansky direction, the Russian enemy group continues to shell the city of Kharkiv and the settlements of Uda and Prudianka.
  • Russia’s offensive operations in the Izium-Barvinkove and Izyum-Sloviansk directions continue in the Izyum direction. The enemy continued to fire on our troops.
  • In the Donetsk direction, a group of Russian occupying forces is conducting offensive operations along almost the entire line of contact.
  • In the Lyman direction, the Russian enemy fired on the units of Ukrainian troops on the Lyman-Siversk border to oust them from their positions and create conditions for the attack on Sloviansk.
  • In the Sievierodonetsk direction, the Russian enemy focused its main efforts on taking control of Rubizhne and preparing for the attack on Severodonetsk.
  • In the Popasna direction, the Russian enemy tried to improve the tactical position in the Popasna area. The Russian enemy strengthened its troops by moving one battalion tactical group from the Mariupol direction.
  • To increase the air defence system, the Russian enemy deployed additional anti-aircraft missile systems in the temporarily occupied and temporarily beset territories of Luhansk and Zaporizhzhia regions.
  • In the Tavriya and Pivdennyi Buh directions, the Russian enemy continues to try to improve its tactical position and shelling.
  • In the Tavriya direction, measures are being taken to regroup Russian enemy units, increase the components of the fire destruction system, and engineer equipment for replenishment of ammunition and fuel, and oil.
  • In the South Buh direction, the occupiers are trying to reach the administrative border of the Kherson region, looking for weaknesses in Ukrainian defence. In the area of Mykolaiv, the Russian aggressor carried out air reconnaissance with the use of three UAVs. He fired artillery at the positions of our units.
  • During the previous day, air defence units hit ten Orlan-10 UAVs.
  • The Russian enemy suffers significant losses, especially in artillery and on land. In the Donetsk and Luhansk regions only, ten attacks by Russian occupiers were repulsed in the past 24 hours, two tanks, seventeen artillery systems, thirty-eight units of armoured combat vehicles, and 10 units of enemy vehicles were destroyed.

0:23 Operational Command “South”

  • In the Kherson region, the occupiers continue to appoint their governors to district centres and put pressure on the public to force them to accept the occupying power as legitimate. By disabling mobile communications, Russian propagandists spread a fake that Ukraine had done. At the same time, work to disconnect the region from the Ukrainian banking system continues. People with an active pro-Ukrainian position, including those involved in the Anti-Terrorist Operation / Joint Forces Operation, are identified, abducted, and tortured.
  • Ukrainian units hold the frontiers, not allowing the enemy to advance in the Mykolaiv direction. In reconnaissance of the positions of our troops, the enemy was left without another unmanned reconnaissance “Orlan-10”, in addition to 2 morning losses.
  • The total loss of the enemy per day is 35 soldiers and 7 units of equipment, including armoured, automobile, and rocket-propelled grenade launchers.
  • An extended curfew has been launched in Odesa to limit attempts to create provocations related to the commemorative date of May 2. The results of counter-sabotage measures carried out in the region testify to the tireless attempts of enemy forces to promote the idea of Russification of southern Ukraine. But the mood of the population, affected by the chronicle of the full-scale invasion, the atrocities and atrocities of the occupiers, is strongly pro-Ukrainian.

0:16 Suspilne citing Adviser to the Head of the President’s Office Oleksii Arestovych on Feygin Live

Russia is preparing to send about 10,000 volunteers to Ukraine.

“According to my estimates, I see that 10,000 volunteers can be recruited by mid-May. And so they will heroically go somewhere. The question is where? And it will be similar to the invasion of Chinese volunteers in the Korean War when they stopped the high-tech army. But only there are two big differences: that two zeros must be subtracted and tens of thousands will come out,” Arestovych said.

According to him, the Russian volunteer takes declassed people that can’t do anything and gives them “some old camouflage, boots of the 51st year, a machine gun of the 47th and a helmet of the 43rd”. Therefore, he is convinced that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will destroy this reinforcement.

“We have crushed the elite Russian divisions, so these volunteers will be easy for us. We will only have time to change the barrels of machine guns. We will destroy them,” said an adviser to the President’s Office.

He compared the reinforcement of infantry units of the Russian army by inexperienced volunteers to the popular computer game Zerg Rush.

“There is such a nation of zerg – insects. And because earthlings and other nation are beating with high-tech, they just overwhelm the mass. What’s most amazing? There are enough volunteers. There are many. They have one great dignity, or rather two – that there are many of them and they are volunteers. And a lot of shortcomings, which are that they do not know anything, do not represent military force, but only represent manpower. But it is also short-lived,” Arestovych is convinced.
